"The New Testament is a gold mine. It contains the four Gospels—Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John—as well as the Acts of the Apostles and other writings." President Gordon B. Hinckley April 2007 Conference Talk "Let Virtue Garnish Thy Thoughts Unceasingly"
As I seek to become a more devoted disciple of Jesus Christ, his associations with people in the scriptures are a great learning tool. I am always looking for examples of women in the scriptures, especially those that had a close association with Christ. One of my favorite encounters is his visit in the home of two sisters, Mary and Martha (Luke 10:38–42) .These are two faithful women that Christ loves, he is visiting their home likely because he needed a place of rest and refuge. He takes the opportunity to teach them (and me) an important lesson. Mary is sitting at Jesus' feet listening to his teachings, while Martha busy's herself around the home. She expresses concern that Mary is not helping and Jesus tells her she is "careful and worried about many things, but Mary has chosen that good part." For me personally this means there will always be things that need attention, but sometimes feeding my soul through reading the scriptures, spending time with my family members, playing with a grandchild, or visiting the sick is probably more pleasing to the Lord then how clean or organized my home is.
